How Slow Can You Get Rich Quick?
Or, how quick can you get rich slow?
Recently, I wrote about the good guys, including Get Rich Slow. This is a blog I follow, and has a good mix of interesting articles related to finding financial freedom. Today’s post ties in with Rob’s question in the forum asking how long it would take to make money from a website.
There is a common thread to many successful websites that bring their owners financial freedom. Like myself, they focus on their visitors, and look at building traffic whilst writing about topics they enjoy. Now, you have to be careful about the claims from some people, as the less trustworthy will try to hook you with some unrealistic earnings target, and before you know where you are, you’ve signed up to some kind of expensive coaching scheme.

Will Fear Kill Your Financial Dreams?
Yesterday, I answered a question from a student about the risks of international monetary problems depressing the job market in years to come. Is it every student’s fear – will there be a job for me when I complete my studies?
There are so many aspects and inferences in this question, that it is difficult to know where to begin. My initial response was to consider becoming expert in economic and IT industry trends. That may be a valid response for some people, but I feel that most students would not want to spend there spare time working on projects like that.
What we really need to do is address the real issues that hide behind the question.

Did I Find Financial Freedom The Day I Won The Lottery?
As I collect my thoughts together to write my introductory pages, the mention of my “butterfly brain” on Why You Need Freedly For Financial Freedom forces me to jump aside. I need to share with you, the day I won the lottery.
Now, before you shout at the screen, calm down and listen. This website will not tell you that the only way to find financial freedom is to win the lottery. Let me explain.
I won’t bother with background about my life story. You get plenty of opportunity to be bored by that elsewhere. I’ll just step to that fateful day, and share my day with you, then tell you about my massive windfall.

Let’s Hear It For The Good Guys
Like all good website builders, I keep an eye on the competition.
Of course, I’m gonna tell you it’s because I look for great people to network with so I can share the good stuff about freedom on the Internet. You know I’m really doing it to steal the best ideas.
There is a third, very important reason why I search for new articles related to freedom. I want to spot the spammers so I can warn people what they need to avoid. I try not to give the bad guys the publicity they do not deserve, but I do try to be better than them. That is not difficult.
It is very easy to find rubbish about financial freedom. The Internet is full of con merchants who are expert sales people. I have to admire their selling skills, but I have to hate what they do. If you are looking for financial freedom, the last thing you need is to spend much needed dollars on a get rich scheme or ebook. That is why I love websites that give free, good-quality, advice and information. If they can do that, they get a well deserved spot on my Good Guys List.
Towards the end of last year, I started tracking financial freedom news. It is a horror story.
My dedication to you keeps me going, as I review pages and pages of utter drivel, and conniving con-merchant crap. Yes, there are occasional well-written, well-meaning articles that give good information, and helpful advice. These are rare.
But, there is something great about 2012. Today, I had three financial freedom articles to read. Today, I read three great financial freedom articles, and started following three great writers. In no particular order, they are:
Creative Boomer
Ann at Creative Boomer is doing what you should do – creating personal wealth for herself and creating inspiration for people like herself to do the same. While you are waiting for me to finish this website, get Ann’s Playing by the Rules eBook, before she stops giving it for free.
Financial Freedom
FF at Financial Freedom is doing what you should do – writing a blog that details his journey towards Financial Freedom. He deserves a special mention for How To Achieve Financial Freedom. Maybe I should stop writing the guidelines here, and focus on giving you great wealth generating tools. I could just advise you to read that article, then get on with it.
Get Rich Slowly
J.D. Roth at Get Rich Slowly is doing what you should do – devoting his average self to explaining how few people get rich quickly, but almost anyone can get rich slowly. Except, he aint average. 12 Steps to Financial Freedom in 2012 will tell you why he aint average. People who drive Mini Coopers are not average.
All three financial freedom websites are non-exploitative. their owners know how to have a good life, make money, and treat their clients with care. Let’s hear it for the good guys.
One day, I’ll get guest articles from these good guys, specially for you. In the meantime, I will try to finish more pathways, and your freedom forum.

Introducing Freedom Financial Purpose
What Is Freedom Financial Purpose?
Good financial freedom relies on simple financial planning. Some of the detail can get complex if you haves several interlinked revenue streams, living and business costs, and tax issues. However, your guiding financial plan should be simple.
Your plan must have clear, measurable outcomes that you can develop into a continuous process for better standards of living. Whether your plan covers a year, a decade, a month, or a day, you must know the dollars you expect. But, most important of all, the purpose of your financial plan must inspire your success, and freedom inspires better financial performance.
So, we will put freedom first in our Financial Freedom Pathway. Since all projects start with, and depend on, a clear statement of purpose, our first step is to write a Freedom Financial Purpose Statement.

How Much Cash Is Enough?
When I write of freedom, enough is a word loaded with meaning.
There are many people who believe that only the best is good enough. But, for freedom, the best has little meaning. There is no concept of being the most free. Freeest is not a word.
In acute freedom situations, enough is inadequate. In the context of slavery, you are free or not. But, such acute situations are rare, and especially when we talk of financial freedom.
Quite simply, when it comes to money, if we have enough, we are free.
And now, I hear you shouting at your screen, “Who has enough cash??!!”
But, that is my point. If you want financial freedom, being the richest will certainly bring you freedom from poverty. However, financial freedom is about more than that. It is about having sufficient wealth to meet immediate needs, with reserves and expectations that are sustainable. We are financially free if we feel safe that our current and expected wealth will meet our current and expected needs.
I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who blindly commit to some money-generating scheme or other with no clue if the rewards will be enough, or sustainable. If you skip those considerations, you are doomed to failure.
This website is here to help you feel freed from all lifes fears, and especially fears of debt and poverty. It is early days, but the pathways to freedom will soon be finished, and the forum will soon be open. Then, you can ask any questions you like about financial freedom. In the meantime, if you are wondering about any get-rich-quick scheme (or even a get-rich-slow scheme), ask yourself two questions:
- Will it make enough cash?
- Is it sustainable?

Is Partially Free Enough?
You’ll have gathered by now that finding your freedom can be a long process.
Not only do you need time to develop your own plans, you also have to wait for me to show you the way. Now, that is taking too long, but there is a fast-track.
Although Freedly is for your own free websites, it can be daunting, planning and building your own web business or learning website. The rewards are definitely worth the effort, but perhaps you need to dip your toe and see if the water suits you.
I’m proud to announce new opportunities for contributors and guest writers. Clearly, this website is too new to help you much. I’m happy to invite people to write here, but the traffic is not yet high enough to bring good rewards. It could be good learning practice, and rewards will come in time, but most people want immediate rewards.
I have good traffic at other websites, and I now have a basic contributor rewards scheme. It will become more sophisticated in time, especially in the area of learning how to write for rewards. However, for those who already have good writing skills, or enough passion to encourage me to edit your contributions, my scheme will allow you to start earning rewards today.
You will not have the total freedom that your own website brings, but partial freedom that allows you to boost your main income, or bring other rewards is often a good starting point.
Partially Free Rewards
There are many forms of reward available when your contributions are published:
- Promote a charity website
- Appeal for charity donations
- Promote your own, or a friends, website
- Promote products and services for commission (affiliate income)
- Serve adverts for direct revenue using AdSense and similar schemes
Do you have other types of reward in mind? Please tell me about your ideas in the box below.
Find Your Partial Freedom
If you want to get involved, current opportunities are open in the world of gout. Next up will be nutrition, focused on a food diary. There may also be some UK opportunities, but I’ll be covering these on a separate website. I’ll post specific links and details when I’ve finished documenting the schemes, and I’ll start an opportunities directory here.

Where Do You Start Your Freedom Definition?
This is the second article in the Freedom Definition series. Previously, I touched on defining what makes us free before seeking freedom. Now I want to lay the foundation for a clearer, practical pathway to defining and refining your own personal freedom definition.
Personal Freedom Definition Pathway
I am a firm believer in planning. I know that planning improves any task or project.
I also know that rigid, detailed planning of every task can stop us achieving. However, planning is not enough – reviewing is vital, as most tasks repeat, and we always want to do it better next time. This leads to a cycle of plan – do – review.
The process is:
- Plan tasks
- Do tasks
- Review plans
This forms a cycle where repetitive tasks and long term projects get managed much more efficiently than acting on instinct, or blindly following procedures set by others.
There are times when immediate action is required. There are times when we are constrained by law or duty and we must follow the code. However, most tasks, especially repeating tasks, benefit from planning and review. Most projects fail without planning and review.
I have developed a pathway template that can improve any task and project. Before I explain it, I need to explain why it is important.
I use the pathway template throughout this website to help you develop your own plans to find freedom and improve your life. Most of the tasks you need to perform form projects that you need to manage. If you get into the habit of planning and reviewing tasks and projects, you will achieve more, and you will achieve quicker. Underlying all these tasks and projects is your own Personal Freedom Definition.
A project so important must be managed properly. If you fail to plan properly, you will waste time seeking freedoms that are not important to you, even if the suggestions of other people make you feel they are important now. If you fail to review properly, then your freedom definition will not grow with you. You might get stuck in a rut, or you might fail to recognize new opportunities. You must plan, do, and review.
I believe that the plan and review stages are so important, that I have split them into different phases. Some are interchangeable or overlapping. Each phase can provide feedback and amendments to other phases. The only restriction is that you must complete the planning phases before you start doing the tasks. Of course, you cannot review the planning until you have started the tasks. So, you must find ways to get the planning phases completed as soon as possible to avoid delays in completing your freedom definition.
This is not about taking unnecessary shortcuts, but a good practical, efficient approach requires that you learn to recognize when you need to be meticulous, and when you can get tasks completed quickly to speed the project.
Even though I have not even explained that pathway fully yet, I asked in the previous article for your ideas on what you expected to achieve. It is often OK to do important tasks before you have the full picture. For now, you just have to trust me. Go back to the previous article and complete the task. Over the course of this series of articles, you will learn to understand the Freedom Definition Pathway, and you will understand why it is OK to start before you have a clear idea where you are going.
In fact, this is one of the unique strengths of adopting my pathway techniques – the more you use them, the more you recognize the simple tasks that are almost always required. The initial parts of planning that require some simple facts to make certain you stay on the right track. Clear expectations are always fundamental to any project, so you can go back to the previous article, and start your project by listing your ideas about what it means to be free.
Or, you can just wait until I’ve finished the complete series.
What do you want to do? Start the list, or wait for the complete pathway explanation? Share your thoughts, opinions, and experiences below.
Freedom: What Is Your Personal Definition?
As I begin to get this Freedly website organized, I realize the most important thing about finding freedom is your own definition. This article launches a series about defining your personal freedom. It forms the pre-launch to my Freedom Definition Pathway, which is a practical guide to help you define your own personal freedom.
In my first approach to defining what this freedom website is about, I started with FDR’s four freedoms:
- Freedom of speech and expression (Communicate)
- Freedom to worship (Spirit)
- Freedom from economic want (Money)
- Freedom from fear (Security)
These are OK for political speech-making, but do not give us the clear basis we need for finding personal freedom.
Personal freedom requires two sets of rules:
- Factors that make us feel better
- Fears that make us feel worse
I discuss factors that make us feel better on my Quality Of Life (QOL) website. Each individual has their own set of quality of life indicators, but they all fall into the following sets, irrespective of our favorite way of expressing them:

You Won’t Know Freedom Until You Try
Do you doubt you could run a successful website?
Are you worried that you cannot write well?
Are you holding back from starting just because you don’t feel ready?
It’s time to stop worrying, and start typing. Start today – you can’t make the excuse that you have no money, because websites are free here.
As Penny, Managing Editor of EzineArticles.com, wrote me one day:
Perfection should always be your goal, but remember to submit and learn along the way. Trust me, you’ll get better with time.
I believe her, and you should too. There is no magic way to become a good writer, but it is magic when your writing slowly improves to the point where people always listen to you, and seek your views. However, though EzineArticles is a great service, if you subscribe to that franchise you will always make more for the owners than you will for yourself. You might become freer, but you will never find true freedom. Use the Freedly service and I guarantee you can always keep 100% of what you earn. It is your traffic to do with as you will, and the only obligation is a link back to my website. I’m not doing this for the money – I earn enough already. I’m doing it because you deserve more freedom than you have now, and I want to help you find it.
It won’t happen overnight. Your 60th article will be a million times better than your first – but you’ll never reach it if you do not start now.
Even a good comment is a start, so start with something good here.
You won’t know freedom until you try to find it.
