If i was to Create a website, could I be charged for uploading the site to the internet?

As a new IT student I was wondering whether it could cost me to upload sites on to the the internet?

Also if i was to say upload the website to Internt explorer would it then be automatically on other internet providers?(Such as Mozilla Firefox).

One other thought that i had was that would it cost me to put the wepage on Google or Yahoo?

I have moved this to Freedom Of Speech, as there isn't enough financial information in the question to give any meaningful answers regarding financial freedom. Also, the question length is now limited to 70 characters, so I have copied the original heading to the top of the question background. I will update the forum guidelines soon to give more information about the best way to add questions in each of the categories.

Please note that, whilst I believe that researching, publishing, and marketing websites is a great way to improve many aspects of freedom, this is not really a technical support website. I am building a support site for webmasters, and you can help by asking technical questions on that website.

This forum is more about why you might want to publish websites, what they can do to help you, and what alternatives you might try. Having said that, it is good for everyone to understand how easy it is to publish a website these days, and the danger it can bring.

Dangers?

Oh yes! You can waste hours and hours collecting information to publish on a website. Many people spend many hours doing this with no authentic goals, and no meaningful plans. Then they waste more time wondering where it all went wrong.

There are hundreds of different ways to publish websites, and these days, there are some high quality free options. If you are trying to create something that earns money, you must realize that you are creating a web business. Let me know if this is the case, and I can give some specific pointers to the best way to do it.

For free websites, the two best offerings are WordPress.com and Blogger.com. The free version of WordPress is not for commercial websites. It has a bigger network of hobby sites, and a better growth path if you want to expand your hobby into a commercial business website. Blogger has very few restrictions commercially, and allows you to make some money from your hobby very easily.

Before I get serious about the planning issues, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox are not websites, or hosting companies. They are browsers that run on your computer to show the content of websites which are hosted somewhere on the Internet, anywhere in the world. There are more browser choices such as Chrome, Safari, and Opera. These all show whatever you save on your website, and other people's websites, with slight differences.

Internet providers are the companies that let you connect to the Internet. They are nothing to do with hosting websites, they just handle data transmission.

As a final technical point, once you have published your website, you want to attract traffic to it. There are hundreds of ways to market your website. Some cost money, others cost only time. On Google and Yahoo search results, you see a mixture of free natural listings and paid adverts. I deal with managing website marketing on shrewdies.com, and the technical aspects of running marketing campaigns at shrewdies.net.

If you want to create a website, both WordPress.com and Blogger.com allow you to register and publish very quickly. If you want to see how easy this is, just go to their websites, register, then follow the instructions. If you can use a wordprocessor, you can create a website. But the big question you have to ask yourself is "Will this improve my freedom, or trap me even more?"

Publishing websites is a very time-consuming passtime. Even though you can do it with little or no financial investment, it needs a big time investment. There are significant benefits, but they are only benefits if you want them. You will hear thousands of website owners complain that they are not getting what they want from their website. This is almost always because they never stated what they wanted before they started, so they never planned to achieve anything.

If you want to improve freedom of speech, websites help in at least two ways.

  • By writing everyday, you learn to write better. This is especially true when people ask questions about what you have written. You start to express similar concepts in different ways, and your expertise helps you speak freely.
  • By attracting visitors, you build a network of contacts, so when you have something important to say, your network reads it and interacts. This freedom of speech within your network lets you ask your supporters for help, and you can trade ideas between each other.

Soon you become the expert that everyone wants to talk to, and that is an incredibly good freedom to have.

having now looked at it i can now see that some of the questions that i have put on that there are looking at ways of making money and not looking at the freedom of life that i should lead.

However i thank you for you infomation on the websites and browsers and how i can look at websites.
Thanks Rob,

I have written a bit more on this at http://freedly.com/87/your-money-or-your-life/

Now I need to add some clarification about the Freedom Of Speech "big picture"
I have explained my thoughts on why freedom of speech is relevant to this website at http://freedly.com/91/money-talks-so-start-telling-me-where-to-find-you/

Though I believe this is important for many people, I am going to focus on completing the pure financial freedom stuff, unless there is an unexpected burst of interest in free speech from loads of new questions in this forum.
That link was very help thank you for that.
