Did I Find Financial Freedom The Day I Won The Lottery?
As I collect my thoughts together to write my introductory pages, the mention of my “butterfly brain” on Why You Need Freedly For Financial Freedom forces me to jump aside. I need to share with you, the day I won the lottery.
Now, before you shout at the screen, calm down and listen. This website will not tell you that the only way to find financial freedom is to win the lottery. Let me explain.
I won’t bother with background about my life story. You get plenty of opportunity to be bored by that elsewhere. I’ll just step to that fateful day, and share my day with you, then tell you about my massive windfall.
Like many people, I spent a little each week on the lottery. It was a few years ago, and my currency is sterling (UK pounds, or however you refer to them). Lets say, around $10 per week. A few weeks I broke even, and a couple of times I got one or two months of “investment” back. I had the good sense to choose random numbers each time – no way I would add to my fears of freedom with the fear losing “my lottery” the week I missed my ticket. But I had a vague fear of missed opportunity. That turned out to be another negative fear that I eventually freed myself from.
About 3 years ago, I read a story of a couple of lottery winners who won millions, yet returned to their day jobs with no thoughts or ambitions about changing lifestyle. I was outraged that someone could win that amount of money, which was partially mine, and not make good of it. Then I was a little envious that their lives were so fulfilled they didn’t need to change. Then my life changed.
I began to seriously think about what I would do as a lottery winner. What parts of my life would I ditch immediately? More importantly, how would I spend my time? What aspects of my life were important enough to focus my newfound wealth on?
That day, the lottery changed my life. No longer would I aimlessly dream of winning the lottery. I made sure that dream could never happen, and I stopped buying tickets. I have learned to get money and happiness from the lottery without spending a dime.
I organize my life to avoid the things I would ditch if money were no object. I organize my life to find the things that make me happy, then find ways to earn money from them.
What about my massive windfall? I’ve saved around $1500, but made much, much more with a clearer focus on what really matters.
So now I must return to finish writing the introduction pages, and then perhaps a little sleep. Such stuff as dreams are made on.

The more I read your writing, the more I love your warped sense of humor!
I’ve seldom played the lottery for the reason you said. Fear that the day I didn’t play “my numbers” would be the day they came up.
And using random numbers feels like doubling the odds against me.
I don’t know what you mean.
And, thanks Ann, for reminding me I needed to get my commenting sorted out.
